Low libido is a frustrating and vexing problem for many women. There are many different causes of low libido. It's actually multifactorial, and it can be caused by more than just hormonal changes. Sometimes it's as simple as a medication you're taking, like the birth control pill or an SSRI, that may have a side effect of depressing your libido. Sometimes it's a function of your relationship or your own personal body image or your partner's medical conditions.
It can also be due to hormonal changes such as those seen in perimenopause and menopause. So if you're having trouble with libido, what is required is not simply a testosterone supplement, for example, but rather a thorough, thoughtful conversation with your provider that helps you delve into what could be contributing so that we can find a good solution for you in particular.
