Genitourinary syndrome of menopause refers to a constellation of symptoms that occur because of the loss of estrogen in the vaginal, genital, and urinary tract areas.
When we lose estrogen in these areas, women will start to experience dryness and loss of elasticity in the vagina, which can lead to vaginal atrophy, which then in turn causes vaginal pain with sex or just simply discomfort when a woman is sitting or walking around.
It can also affect the bladder area and lead to urinary frequency, urinary incontinence, urinary urgency. All of these changes can predispose women to infections such as UTIs or vaginal infections such as yeast infections or bacterial infections in the vagina.
So GSM, or genitourinary syndrome of menopause, is something to be taken seriously. And there is easy remedies in the form of vaginal estrogens, non-hormonal therapies for women who are not interested in hormone therapy. Please give us a call. We can help you and we love to help women with this problem because it's so easy to get you back on the right track and feel a better version of yourself.
